Do I Really need PT?

It’s a fair question, but before you talk yourself out of PT, consider this:

Opting out can cause you to spend more time and money trying to heal and lead to a worse outcome.

PT Myths & Legends:

“I can just do stretches and exercises on my own for healing.”

That thought comes from a great place, and we try to make sure our patients leave our office with the confidence and knowledge to do just that. But without the guidance of a professional, you could do the wrong stretches and exercises for your injury or area of pain, causing you more pain or further injury.

“I’m not an athlete, I don’t really need professional help.”

Physical Therapy is for everyone! That pesky pain in your knee might be stemming from a hip issue you’d never realize you had without the help of a Physical Therapist. Whether healing from a surgery or just not moving like you want to, a physical therapist has the expertise to help you get back to what you love.

“I don’t need exercise. I’ll just rest, ice and heat.”

Sometimes our bodies do need rest or ice or heat. But sometimes our bodies need work.  Too much rest can lead to tightness, stiffness, increased pain and even muscle atrophy.

Physical Therapy Leads to Better Outcomes for You

When you don’t get proper guidance from a professional, your outcomes won’t be as good.

Not including physical therapy in your program can lead to:

-Delayed Healing

-Muscle Stiffness

-Joint Pain

-Limited Range of Motion

-Improper Movement Patterns that can lead to reinjury

-Chronic Pain

-Increased Medical Care Costs

A 2020 study from The Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy found that patients who didn’t include physical therapy in their recovery regimen ended up spending more money and having poorer outcomes.
